Works update at Middleton Field

Over the past 8 months at the eastern entry to Daylesford near the intersection of Malmsbury Road and Raglan Street, there has been a hub of civil works activity at Middleton Field.

The works included the creation of a new road network, footpaths and the installation of services (sewer, drainage, water, electrical and communications) for six new homesites in Middleton Field opposite Daylesford’s oldest pub The Farmers Arms.

Completed by highly experienced contractor Winlsow - all approvals required to complete the works were received, with the project team at Middleton Field working closely with Hepburn Shire Council to obtain these permissions.

Recommend tree pruning and care of the row of significant cedar trees framing the new homesites along Malmsbury Road has taken place, under the supervision of an arborist.

To support future growth, the area beneath the trees has been intentionally left free of new planting, allowing root systems to expand undisturbed. Mulch applied around the base of each tree to retain soil moisture, regulate temperature and suppress weeds will also assist root growth.

The measures will ensure the long term health of these majestic trees so they remain the centrepiece of the landscape at the eastern entry to Daylesford.

A small section of streetscape landscaping has also recently been installed by landscaping group Vogue Grange.

Central to the design by landscape architect Acre was the integration of the natural rock formations and carefully selected plant species to create an environment complementing the local landscape with minimal ongoing Council maintenance required.

The rockwork serves both an aesthetic and practical purpose with large and small beaching rocks strategically placed to stabilise soil and manage water flow, particularly around sloped areas. The design works to prevent erosion while also adding texture and structure to the overall look.

Plants were chosen to suit the local climate and soil conditions, ensuring resilience and sustainability.

Native and drought-tolerant species dominate the selection, providing year-round greenery and supporting local biodiversity. The combination of trees, shrubs, grasses, and groundcovers is layered creating depth and variety across the streetscape landscaping.

With landscaping complete, the homesites are now ready for handover and the next exciting phase of development with a series of new sustainable pavilion-style homes to be built as part of 2025 season of Channel 9’s popular TV show, The Block. Watch this space!
