ANZAC Day in Daylesford

Last Friday, April 25, many gathered at dawn at the Daylesford cenotaph to mark ANZAC Day, alongside a catafalque party from the 8th/7th Royal Victoria Regiment, a Reserve infantry battalion of the 4th Brigade.

ANZAC Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand, commemorating the first major military action of Australian and New Zealand soldiers in World War I, the landing at Gallipoli in 1915.

It is also a time to reflect on the courage, mateship, and sacrifice of those who served—and continue to serve—in conflicts around the world.

After the dawn service, many community members stayed to share a breakfast generously hosted by the Daylesford RSL.

A second commemorative service was held at 10:30am. At this service, Lieutenant Catherine Webster - Development Manager at Hygge delivered a powerful address, sharing a story of two brothers from Creswick who enlisted in Daylesford.

Her words offered a poignant reminder of the personal and lasting impact of service—not only on those who fought, but on the families and communities that supported them.

Adam Davidson, Director at Hygge was also in attendance and had the honour of laying a wreath alongside Lieutenant Webster during the service (images below).
