Community - Rotary Club of Ballarat

With members representing a wide range of business and professional backgrounds, the Rotary Club of Ballarat is an organisation serving and supporting the Ballarat community through funds raised via local events.

The Club meet at the Ballarat Golf Club and are often joined with guest speakers from the Ballarat community providing members with insights into their activities.

Following invitation, Hygge Director Joseph recently spoke to the Club about the future of housing in central Ballarat.

With limited affordable housing for purchase or rentals within 5km of the CBD in Ballarat, Joseph shared his thoughts around the importance of urban regeneration in core regional cities to help reinvigorate historical centres while providing much needed housing diversity.

Highlighting the changing nature of Ballarat’s population, he considers both the under 30s and over 55s as seeking smaller footprint housing close to central amenity - prioritising walkability, lifestyle and easy access to health care.

A point of discussion through questions from the Club was the need to protect critical heritage assets in Ballarat, with Joseph speaking to urban regeneration as a tool to preserve and enhance historical places, whilst also ensuring they have a thriving future.
